I went for my monthly blood and urine tests yesterday, the nurse said there is a little bit of protien in my urine. I have been really worried about this. I can do without any more illness . I know it can happen with diabetes . I have r a ,coeliac already never , mind maybye not. There are worse things as long as its nothing serious. I will have to stop googling things as it tells you all the bad things it could be and my mind runs away imagining all kinds. Its good we can share our worries here. Kathleen Mc.

Dear Kathleen, I do this "Googling" - I just can't help myself!
I have nearly frightened myself to death when I have had results from the
G.P and wanted more information!
The trouble is that the Google results give all the possibilities from the best to
the worst!
Luckily, most times our results will not be the most serious causes but the least!
Best wishes,
FionaRollEyes

Hi Kathleen,

what RA meds are you on? I had this a lot when I was on penacillamine (sp?). After coming off that drug it cleared up eventually.

I think if there is only a little bit of protein it is nothing much to worry about. I think they would have repeated the test or done a 24hour sample if there was any concern.

Take care, thinking of you

Hi, I have lupus and often have have protein in my urine. It can be due to a uti. I have kidney disease, and am just monitored. If you continue to pass protein they do a 24hr collection, but it has to be a significant amount for them to act. Have you had your bloods done recently, if there was a major problem it would show in your blood test. They often just monitor the situation.

I know it is worrying, let us know how you get on.

Please try not to worry, Kathleen...I am not good at practising what I preach but I am totally banned at my web searching as I have also scared myself to near death. Honestly, if you look it up there will be many things which match this and probably none of them will be what's wrong - IF anything is, as blood fluctuates greatly and can be different day to day....

Much love, and prayers,

Amanda

Those of us with RA , (according to my MANY consultants,!!!!) FREQUENTLY throw up odd signs in both blood and urinalysis, There is no need to panic UNLESS you feel unwell/ really poorly (apart from the RA, I mean). Protein in blood samples COULD be the first sign of an infection, but, like blood in urine, can simply be due to some leakiness of the basement membrane........so, basically, if you feel ok for you, then don't panic, just get it checked again to put your mind at ease. Love Lxx
Always be aware that what you do might hurt others........and if it could, do nothing without careful consideration of the consequences

Hi Kathleen

Has the surgery made you an appointment to see your gp?

I vaguely remember having this result myself some time ago and bananas were mentioned then. Nothing was done at the time and it's not been mentioned since, so it's probably one of those odd things that happen now and then.

Hope this gets sorted for you soon.

Please try not to worry too much, Kathleen. I know how hard it is, but worrying only makes our RA flare.

Take care ad try to enjoy the weekend.

Lots of love

I am finding this hard because i love my cups of tea. There always seems to be something with blood lately. I keep tell ing myself not to worry but its not easy .I t could be with some of the medication.Never mind it will get sorted , i dont want to sound like a hypochondriac. Kathleen Mc.Confused

Kathleen - have you tried exchanging some of the tea etc for glasses of water? I find this always helps my blood results. Crazy or what?

Hi Kathleen,

I had low sodium levels a couple of years ago while I was in hospital - it came to light in a routine blood test, and I was given a course of sodium tablets which sorted the problem. I did ask why they might have become low, and was told I was probably dehydrated - which was news to me as I was eating & drinking normally at the time.

Hope it clears up for you.

Kathleen x
